Biography
As a lawyer, I want to get the best result for my client. That may require carefully shepherding a lawsuit through every step of the process through a successful jury trial, or quickly and efficiently negotiating a wise business settlement short of full-blown “litigation.” I can and have done both.
I represented a group of inventors who had been denied royalties from their inventions through a lawsuit involving 53 depositions, sets of motions and other pre-trial processes over 1 ½ years ultimately reaching a multi-million dollar settlement the Friday before the trial was to begin.
I have also represented the chief executive of a company who was denied his share in the company; and within a few months negotiated a pre-suit settlement that avoided the time and expense of a lawsuit.
I have successfully tried jury trials in business lawsuits (disputes among business owners as well as disputes between businesses), estate disputes, and personal injury lawsuits.
I have tried cases and represented clients regularly in Superior Court throughout Western North Carolina and in federal district court, and the Tribal Court and the Supreme Court of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. I have also practiced in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
